Dell has been doing great work with their Alienware gaming series, providing high end gaming performance but at a hefty price. Dell has now unveiled their updated version of the Dell inspiron 7000 series of laptops. This new series of laptops pack similar power as some of the premium gaming laptops at a much lower price.

Last year, Dell introduced the Inspiron 7000 series which offered excellent gaming performance for a budget oriented product. It had a quad-core i5 or i7 CPU, an ultra HD display, 8+ gigs of RAM and packed the Nvidia GTX 960M graphics card. It could run virtually any game including the latest triple AAA titles at medium to high settings. Costing around $800 in the US($739), it was a big hit on Amazon alongside the Acer Aspire E15($549) in the budget gaming laptop category. The Dell Inspiron 7000 is still one of the best value gaming laptop in Nepal costing around Nrs. 1,20,000.
At CES 2017, Dell showcased the updated version of the Inspiron 7000 series starting from $799. The laptop features Alienware-like design with big red fan vents at the back for cooling, and red highlights in the keyboard and the Dell logo.
It runs on the latest seventh generation intel i5 and i7 processors. RAM size may vary starting from 8GB. The display may be full HD or Ultra HD (4K) depending on the variant. The processors are HQ which means they have true four cores and great integrated graphics. But the integrated graphics are rendered useless by the available discrete graphics card. Last year’s model used the Nvidia’s 960M mobile GPU which was significantly less powerful than its desktop counterpart – the GTX 960. This year’s model features the latest desktop grade pascal architecture GPUs- the GTX 1050 and the GTX 1050Ti with 4GB of DDR5 memory. By no means these are the best graphics card around, but for the pricing there aren’t any other manufacturers offering 1050’s in a laptop. It lack VR support but still provides great gaming performance in modern titles like Doom and Overwatch.
We have no news of its pricing and availability in Nepal at the moment. So for the time being last year’s Dell inspiron 7559 ( NRs. 1,20,000) is one of the best value gaming laptops available. But if you are on a tighter budget the Acer Aspire e15 (Nrs. 72,000) would still be a great choice for moderate gaming.
