Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Vs Huawei Nova 3e: This might save your Rs.5900
The Nepali Mid-Range Smartphone segment is stuffed with a lot of feature-packed phones. Within the crowd are two newly launched smartphones Huawei Nova 3e and Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera. Their previous version sold like hotcakes and now it’s time for them to keep up the legacy. Let’s compare these two devices in terms of specs and see what they have in common and what stands out.
While the Redmi Note 5 AI has a bigger body both in length and breadth, Nova 3e is Slimmer at 7.4mm compared to Note 5 AI ‘s 8.05mm thickness. Nova 3e is significantly lighter at 145 grams whereas Redmi Note 5 AI weighs 181 grams because of its 4000mAh battery, which is much bigger than Nova 3e’s 3000mAh battery capacity. If you are a heavy user watch out for the battery capacity.
Redmi Note 5 AI comes with an Aluminium body featuring plastic on top and bottom of the back for signal reception whereas Huawei Nova 3e comes with Aluminium frame and glass back.
When it comes to Display, Nova 3e has a notch design with a 19:9 Aspect ratio whereas Note 5 AI has Notch less 18:9 screen. Both devices have almost similar screen sizes 5.99 inches and 5.84 inches for Note 5 AI and Nova 3e respectively.
These two phones come with an IPS LCD panel where Note 5 AI has a pixel density of 403ppi and resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, whereas Nova 3e has a pixel density of 432ppi. Also, the screen to body ratio of Redmi Note 5 AI and Huawei Nova 3e are 77.4% and 80.5% respectively. Redmi Note 5 AI’s display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass (Unknown generation) whereas Corning Gorilla Glass protection is absent on Huawei Nova 3e.
Software and Performance:
Redmi Note 5 AI and Huawei Nova 3e both runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with their own UI on top, MIUI, and EMUI respectively. Both devices come with lots of useful features including Dual Apps, App Lock, battery optimization, face unlock, etc. The main difference here is in the SoC, where Note 5 AI has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Octa-core CPU and Nova 3e has HiSilicon Kirin 659 Octa-core CPU. On the GPU side, Redmi Note 5 AI comes with Adreno 509 GPU and Nova 3e has Mali-T830 MP2 GPU.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 is fabricated on 14nm and uses 4x Cortex A73 and 4x Cortex A53 whereas HiSilicon Kirin 659 is fabricated on 16nm and uses 8x Cortex A53 CPUs. 14nm CPUs are smaller compared to 16nm CPUs, that’s why they are much more power-efficient and generates less heat. Also, Cortex A73 CPUs are much more powerful compared to Cortex A53. So Redmi Note 5 AI will deliver great performance while consuming less power compared to Nova 3e.
Memory wise both devices come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage but Redmi Note 5 AI is using the latest LPDDR4X RAM, which is used on high-end smartphones like Galaxy S9, OnePlus 6, etc. Whereas Nova 3e comes with previous generation LPDDR3 RAM. LPDDR4X RAM offers better performance and consumes less battery compared to LPDDR3 RAM.
The camera is where things get interesting. Redmi Note 5 AI houses a Primary Dual 12MP (f/1.9, 1.4µm) + 5 MP (f/2.0, 1.25µm) camera with dual pixel phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash whereas Nova 3e houses Dual 16MP (f/2.2, 1.0µm) + 2 MP, phase detection autofocus and LED flash. Now both devices use the secondary camera only for depth sensing, which helps to create BOKEH effects (Background blur). Talking about main cameras, Redmi Note 5 AI has a bigger aperture (f/1.9) and larger pixel size (1.4µm) compared to Huawei Nova 3e, so we can expect some better low light photos from it. Because bigger aperture and larger pixel size on the camera sensor help to gather more light which means brighter photos in low-light.
Redmi Note 5 AI’s front camera has 13MP (f/2.0, 1.12µm) sensor with LED flash, whereas Nova 3e has 16MP (f/2.0, 1.12µm). For low light selfies, Redmi Note 5 AI has a dedicated soft LED flashlight located on the front whereas Huawei Nova 3e does not come with an LED flashlight on the front. Now some may like to have selfie flash and some don’t. We’ll leave this to you. Besides these hardware differences, Xiaomi has integrated AI (Artificial Intelligence) feature on Redmi Note 5 AI, that’s how Redmi Note 5 AI got its name. This AI feature allows Redmi Note 5 AI to enhance photos and selfies automatically to make your photos look even better.
Redmi Note 5AI comes with a 4000mAh battery whereas Nova 3e comes with a 3000mAh battery. By looking at the numbers we can easily assume that Redmi Note 5 AI will delivery great battery life compared to Nova 3e. Also, the more power-efficient CPU and RAM on Redmi Note 5 AI helps to get great battery life out of 4000mAh battery. Both devices come with fast charging support and Huawei does offer a fast charger right out of the box whereas for Redmi Note 5 AI you have to purchase the fast charger separately.
While the Redmi Note 5 AI Dual is the best at its price segment currently. Nova 3e is a big game player. It competes pretty well with all the mid-range players around the 35k segment. So if you want to buy a smartphone that offers the best value for your money it is a no-brainer to go for Redmi Note 5 AI. Since it comes with powerful CPU and GPU, has great battery life, better camera specs and on top of these, it is Rs.5900 less expensive compared to Huawei Nova 3e.
But we don’t want to let down our Huawei fans out there. Although Huawei 3e is using year-old processor it is still powerful enough for light gaming and normal day to day usage. Also, Huawei 3e looks much more 2018 smartphone compared to Redmi Note 5 AI, thanks to its “Beautiful” notch, premium-looking design, and USB Type-C port.
So in the end, it all comes to your preference, If you want great performance and battery life go for Redmi Note 5 AI. But if you want to get into the “Notch” party, then Huawei Nova 3e can be a good option for you.
