Well, it is not a news anymore that Nokia, which was once known as the market leader in the smartphone market has once again started selling phones under its banner. However, it remains to be seen whether the once market leader still delivers phones, which were once regarded to last the test of time and were one of the most durable phones produced by any company. To get to the bottom of this, Youtuber “Zack Nelson” has performed a durability test on the Nokia 2, which is a budget offering from the company.
The video shows the smartphone being subjected to various phases of tests. The first of the tests performed is the scratch test which reveals that the front panel of the device can only be scratched by objects with hardness 6 or greater in the Mohs scale thanks to its Gorilla Glass 3 protection. This means that the front panel is resistant to everyday objects like keys, coins, knife, blades, etc. The rear is however made up of plastic and is easily scratchable.
The cameras, both rear and front, are protected by the same glass which makes them resistant to scratches which is a step up from the Nokia 3. The earpiece on the other hand only has a thin sheet of vinyl protecting it which is a bit lacking. The smartphone frame including the power buttons and the volume rockers is made up of metal which may scratch easily but provides a great durability for the phone.
The next test is the burn test where the screen is subjected to a naked flame. The test reveals that the screen lasts about 5 seconds before the pixels start turning black. This is similar to results from smartphones from higher segments.
The last test is the bend test where the device was subjected to extreme force from both front and rear. There is only a slight flex appearing on the device and the device can be considered to have passed the bend test as well.
The Nokia 2 passes the durability test with flying colors. This reveals that Nokia phones still bear the flag of being one of the most durable smartphones produced.
The Nokia 2 features a 5-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Under the hood, the device is powered by Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory which is user expandable up to 128GB. The phone is backed up by a massive 4,100mAh non-removable battery which will surely get you through the day with any type of uses. The device runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with a sure upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo in the future.
The Nokia 2 is priced at Rs.11,499 in Nepal. We think that the only let down feature of Nokia 2 is 1GB of RAM, otherwise it is a capable device in this price range. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
