The OPPO A83 sports a 18:9 aspect ratio full-screen display with very small bezels at the top and bottom of the phone. OPPO has completely ditched the fingerprint scanner on this device and has gone the iPhone X way with a Face Unlock feature. The device features a metal back which curves at the edges for a comforting experience. There is a slight bump from the rear shooter in the back and the OPPO logo in silver chrome is placed in the middle.
The smartphone features a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Under the hood, the phone is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core processor(Most probably Helio-P23) coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be further expand up to 256GB.
The A83 comes equipped with a 13MP rear camera, which the OPPO claims can shoot up to 50MP via software processing. On the front the phone features an 8MP sensor with AI beauty mode for selfies. The face unlock feature of the phone is powered by the same front sensor. OPPO claims that the phone will scan for 128 different facial features and unlock the phone within 0.18 seconds! which is even faster than 0.4 seconds achieved by the OnePlus 5T.
The phone is backed up by a 3180 mAh battery, which is a sacrifice to achieve its slim build. Talking about the OS, the device runs Color OS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. In terms of connectivity, the A83 features 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 /b/g/n, GPS, Micro-USB, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Wi-Fi Direct and includes proximity sensor, accelerometer, and compass (NO GRYOSCOPE).
The OPPO A83 is priced competitively at ¥1399 (around NPR 21,972) and comes in Champagne and Black color variants. The pre-orders for the device are already alive on online OPPO shop page and sales will commence from December 29. The pre-order comes packed with a free pair of QY7 bluetooth headphones. OPPO seems to want to gain a momentum in the market by releasing a smartphone featuring a Face Unlock feature in the budget segment.
