Recently, we covered the launch of OPPO A83 in China and now OPPO has officially launched the OPPO A83 in the Nepalese market. The OPPO A83 is launched in the budget segment of the market and comes equipped with an A.I. Beauty Recognition Technology for great selfies and a full-screen display for a modern look.
The OPPO A83 sports a 18:9 aspect ratio full-screen display with very small bezels at the top and bottom of the phone. OPPO has completely ditched the fingerprint scanner on this device and has gone the iPhone X way with a Face Unlock feature. The device features a plastic back which curves at the edges for a comforting experience. There is a slight bump from the rear shooter in the back and the OPPO logo in silver chrome is placed in the middle.
According to OPPO, the look of the A83 is inspired by UFOs (UFO Curve Design Philosophy), the streamlined design of the flying saucer is incorporated for a more solid edge, with subtle yet sturdy arcs that makes the phone look more dynamic. In our opinion though, the plastic back of the takes away the premium feel of the device.
The smartphone features a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Under the hood, the phone is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core processor (Mediatek MT6763T ) coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be further expand up to 256GB.
The A83 comes equipped with a 13MP rear camera, which the OPPO claims can shoot up to 50MP via software processing. On the front the phone features an 8MP sensor with AI Beauty Recognition Technology for selfies. The face unlock feature of the phone is powered by the same front sensor. OPPO claims that the phone will scan for 128 different facial features and unlock the phone within 0.18 seconds! which is even faster than 0.4 seconds achieved by the OnePlus 5T.
The phone is backed up by a 3180 mAh battery, which is a sacrifice to achieve its slim build. Talking about the OS, the device runs Color OS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. In terms of connectivity, the A83 features 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 /b/g/n, GPS, Micro-USB, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Wi-Fi Direct and includes proximity sensor, accelerometer, and compass (NO GRYOSCOPE).
The primary focus of the phone like its any other phones from OPPO is the selfie camera. According to OPPO, the AI captures more than 200 facial points when a photo is taken, and this allows it to refine features and compose the face contour with precision, making it appear as if the photo were shot by a professional photographer.
Pricing and Availability:
The OPPO A83 is priced competitively at Rs. 24,990/- and will be available across the official outlets of OPPO throughout the country from January 25 on wards.
In our opinion, if you are in the market for a phone with a good selfie camera then OPPO A83 will be one of the choices for you. On the other hand though, if you want a better all-round device you will have to look elsewhere as the decent screen and the plastic back make the device lackluster in comparison to other competing devices.
