Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge come with some minor changes in design compared to last year Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. Now physical home button and rear camera humps are smaller and we have curved back on both devices protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Besides these small changes in design, Samsung has brought back as well as added some new features on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Like:

Faster than ever:

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will come in two variants: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC and Exynos 8890. And we can predict that IMS (Authorized Distributor of Samsung Smartphones in Nepal) will bring Exynos version (Octa-core: 2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad) of Samsung Galaxy S7 And Galaxy S7 edge in Nepal. GSMarena has managed to do some benchmark with Exynos version of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. So before freaking out for not getting Qualcomm version of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in Nepal, see these benchmark numbers.

Liquid Cooling:

I get lots of questions from my reader asking about overheating issues on different smartphones. Yes, every CPU and GPU will do heats up when they are used to their maximum speed. Example: while playing high graphic-intensive games. On some devices, you will notice the heat in the small amount where on others you will notice the heat much. Now Samsung has its solution that we can find in many gaming laptops and PC these days. Adding a liquid cooling system on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge to fix the overheating problem. This will help to keep devices cool and enjoy while playing games.

IP68 rating:

This means Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are now dustproof and water resistant over 1.5 meters up to 30 minutes. So no worries about rain, glass of water or swimming pool.

MicroSD card slot:

Last year Samsung was heavily criticized for removing memory expansion features on Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, and Galaxy Note 5. It seems like, Samsung was listening to its customer feedbacks and brought back the MicroSD card slot on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge come with a Hybrid SIM card slot which you can use as a SIM card slot or MicroSD card slot.

Bigger battery:

Samsung has bumped up battery capacity from 2550mAh to 3000mAh on Samsung Galaxy S7 and 2600mAh to 3600mAh on Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge was not the best smartphone when it comes to battery performance but we can expect better battery performance from both the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge this time.

Quick Charge v3.0:

Though Samsung didn’t use USB Type-C port on its new flagship smartphone we are still getting a fast charging option, which allows us to charge 0-83% battery in just 30min.

Lower megapixels but better image quality:

You might be wondering how lower megapixels can produce better image quality, but that true with Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge come with the same image sensor size i.e. 1/2.6″ we found on last year Galaxy S6 and S6edge but lowering the megapixels from 16 to 12MP, now we are getting larger pixel size i.e. 1.4 µm from 1.12 µm. Although it might seem very litter change in pixel size that will be enough to produce some awesome images in low light situations as Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge also feature a wide f1.7 aperture lens. Also, there is Optical Image Stabilizer helps you to take some sharp photos even at slower shutter speed while taking photos in low lights.

Price and Availability:

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will come in four color options: Black, Pearl White, Silver, and Gold. Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge might cost around 75-80k and 85-90k in Nepal respectively. Also, there is a high chance of launching Galaxy S7 and S7 edge by the end of March in Nepal as Samsung is launching this device in the US, Europe, and some other continents on March 11.

Final Thoughts:

Overall I like the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung has played well this time. They gave us 3 main features that everyone was begging for; expandable storage, bigger battery and water resistance. I can understand why Samsung didn’t make any significant changes in the design as last year Galaxy S6 and S6 edge had already one of the beautiful looking design. Though Samsung has addressed some issues with design this year. Like: making the camera hump smaller as possible and making back of the device curve so that it can easily be picked up while laying flat on the table.
