Tips to buying a gaming laptop

Games these days are getting so graphically advanced that your average laptops cannot handle it. And if you are someone like me, you would like your laptop to perform smoothly with even the latest games like crysis 3 and battlefield 4. But it can be very confusing what to look for when buying a new laptop to run such games. So in article we’re going to tell you what to look for when buying a laptop for gaming.

1. CPU

There are some CPU intensive games like GTA V and Witcher 3 which require more processing power. However you would be surprised as to how much you can achieve with even low end processors given that it is paired up with a good GPU. You do not need the latest i7 processor to run high-end games at 60fps. You can get by with anything higher than i5(clocked higher than 3.0Ghz). But do not rely solely on the processors integrated graphics for gaming. Although AMD processors offer great integrated graphics, it would not perform as well as gaming GPUs. This brings me to the next topic.

2. GPU

GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) has one and only one purpose and that is to push pixels to your screen. So GPU is naturally the most important aspect in a gaming laptop. One of the best GPUs available is NVIDIA’s GTX 900 series(like Nvidia’s Geforce 980M). If you can afford it, you can even go for the 1000 series which are the best cards available at the moment. However GTX cards in laptops are not as powerful as their PC counterparts, but they still get the job done.

The VRAM of the GPU is also an important aspect. For 1080p screen laptops games are known to run smoothly with 2 GB of VRAM .For higher resolution higher VRAM is needed. 4K resolution needs somewhere around 6-8 GB of VRAM.

3. Storage

Latest games take up quite a bit of space in your hard drive so you should go for a laptop with 500GB to 1TB of Hard disk space. SSD(Solid state drive) are preferred as they are faster.

4. Screen resolution

Screen resolution of anything less than 1920X1080(1080p) would not look nice when gaming, so go for 1080p or higher if possible.

The final and the most important thing I would say before buying a new laptop is – Do your research ! Search on the Internet for the laptop reviews and the card’s benchmark scores and then only invest. But if you are really serious about getting a gaming rig, desktop pc’s are the right way to go but that’s a whole nother topic.
