Xiaomi launched its own SoC Surge S1 along with Mi5c and Redmi 4x.
This world is full of smartphone manufacturers however, only a few of them have their own SoC (System-on-chip). An SoC usually contains CPU along with GPU, memory, USB controller, power management circuits, and wireless radios. Only a few manufacturers to date have implemented their own SoC which includes Samsung with it’s “Exynos”, Apple with its”A-series” and Huawei with it’s “Kirin” processor. Xiaomi joins the group as 4th smartphone vendor to do so.
Xiaomi launched it’s new SoC named “Surge S1”, the first-ever in-house designed chipset by Xiaomi which delivers performance and power efficiency. Xiaomi is only one of 4 leading smartphone companies to create a chipset designed and developed in-house. The Surge S1 is an octa-core 64-bit processor that can be clocked up to 2.2GHz at max frequency. It contains Mali-T860 quad-core GPU which is 40% more efficient than the previous-gen Mali-T760. Besides that, it has 14-bit dual ISP which enhances image processing capabilities and the Surge ISP algorithm improves camera light sensitivity by up to 150%. Whereas, the dual noise reduction algorithm also preserves the detail in low light conditions. It packs a 32-bit high-performance DSP for better voice processing for calls, and also dual microphones for noise reduction.

Antutu score 64,817
Along with Surge S1 SoC Xiaomi also launched two new smartphones – Mi5c and Redmi 4x. Mi5c is the ultra-slim and lightweight device that just weighs ‘132g’ and measures ‘7.1 mm’ thick. The device is powered by the Xiaomi’s own SoC Surge S1. It comes with a 5.15 inch JDI display and 1.6mm ultra-thin bezels. As it’s their own SoC they have now handle backlight optimization at chipset levels — up to 2048 ultra-precise brightness adjustment levels. Mi5c packs ultra light-sensitive 12MP camera rear camera and 8MP front camera. The device features a front fingerprint sensor and packs a 2860mAh battery along with 9V 2A fast charging technology. The device in china costs RMB 1499(US$220) and comes with various color options as gold, rose gold and black.
