Xiaomi is the fifth-largest smartphone vendor in the world after selling over 70 million devices in 2015. And you might already guess it how they became world’s fifth smartphone vendor. If not, then let’s look at the newly announced flagship smartphone from Xiaomi, Xiaomi Mi 5.
Xiaomi Mi 5 specifications:
Dimensions: 69.20 x 144.55 x 7.25mm

Camera: 16MP rear camera with f2.0 aperture, 4-axis OIS, phase detection autofocus and Dual-Tone LED flash, 4MP ultra pixel front-facing camera
Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, IR blaster, USB Type-C, 3G, 4G LTE, Dual-SIM
Others: Fingerprint sensor
Battery: 3000mAh non-removable
Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with glass and the metal body design with curved back just like on Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and recently announced Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Even after using premium materials like Glass and Metal and including a large 3000mAh battery, Xiaomi Mi 5 just weighs 129g. However, Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro version having ceramic back will be 10gm heavier than the regular one.
Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with an edge to edge 5.15-inch display with ultra-bright 16-LED backlighting. Xiaomi decided to use a Full HD resolution IPS display instead of QHD. But on a 5.15inch display, it’s really hard to find any differences between Full HD and QHD with naked eyes. Surely Xiaomi could have pleased many people by throwing out QHD resolution on Xiaomi Mi 5 but that could also affect the battery life of Xiaomi Mi 5 as it comes with only 3000mAh non-removable battery as well as on its price.
Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU and Adreno 530 GPU. It comes in three variants. The base model will come with 3D glass on the back, CPU clocked at 1.8Ghz, 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The next model will have 3D glass on the back, CPU clocked at 2.15Ghz, 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Pro version will have ceramic back, CPU clocked at 2.15GHz, 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Xiaomi has used UFS 2.0 memory instead of regular eMMC memory found on regular smartphones. What UFS 2.0 memory does is, it consumes less battery and is 87% faster than eMMC 5.0 memory.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is using a new 16MP Sony IMX 298 image sensor with f2.0 aperture, 4-axis optical image stabilizer, and phase detection autofocus. Though image sensor and pixel size are smaller than one found on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge it is still a worthy camera for the 2016 flagship. On the front, we have a 4MP UltraPixel camera for taking some low light selfies.
Xiaomi has also released a video showing how Xiaomi Mi 5 4-axis optical image stabilizer is better than iPhone 6s and 6s plus.
Xiaomi Mi 5 now comes with a physical home button (Samsung!!!!) below the screen which also works as a fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi has also made sure that Xiaomi Mi 5 will support almost all carrier networks (3G+4G LTE) from all over the world. Also, Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with Quick Charge 3.0 which will help you to charge the battery faster. But you should also have a charger that supports Quick Charge 3.0.
