Redmi 5 And Redmi 5 Plus Officially Announced

Finally after leaks rumors and teasers Xiaomi budget Full screen phones are here. Well It’s not the first time Xiaomi has launched a full screen phone. Xiaomi Mi Mix and Mi Mix 2 are already released with Full screenBezel less display but this time it is special as they are bringing it to their budget Redmi series  Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus.

Main Highlights of these devices are 18:9 display ratio with 5.7″ display in Redmi 5 and 5.99″ display Redmi 5 Plus , Rounded corners, No hardware capacitive buttons. This is a change in design from Xiaomi but only in the front.

First thing first display and design, 5.7″, 720 x 1440 resolution Display with 18:9 body ratio narrow width and tall body. Soft Selfie flash at the top along with front camera and no touch capacaitive buttons. The rounded-corner  “designed to reduce the risk of display damage by spreading force across a larger area.”  The design on the front has definitely changed while in the back the design is already seen in the Redmi note 4 with finger print sensor on the back. In the term of specification, Redmi 5 is powered by new Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor chip with 14nm FinFET technology, Adreno 506 GPU.

The Redmi 5 offer a 12-megapixel rear camera with a 1.25-micron pixel sensor and flash, while they also sport a 5-megapixel front camera with soft-toned Selfie-light for you take a perfect selfie even in low light condition. The company has also included Beautify 3.0, for improved Selfie. Available in 2GB RAM or 3GB RAM and 16GB or 32GB of inbuilt storage, expandable via microSD card. Supported with MIUI 9 with Android 7.1.2 Nougat and 3300 mAh battery. The company claims you can easily have a 2-day usage and lasts up to 12 days on standby.

Redmi 5 Plus features a bigger 5.99″, 1080 x 2160 resolution 18:9 display on the design Department the Redmi 5 Plus does not differ much. Same round cornered design with narrow width and tall body same placement of soft selfie flash, camera and fingerprint sensor with no capacaitive buttons. In the term of specification Redmi 5 Plus features Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with14nm FinFET technology, Adreno 506 GPU.

The Redmi 5 Plus offers the same 12-megapixel rear camera with a 1.25-micron pixel sensor and flash and a 5-megapixel front camera with soft-toned Selfie-light and included Beautify 3.0 aswell. Available in 3GB RAM or 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB of inbuilt storage, expandable via microSD card. Supported with same MIUI 9 with Android 7.1.2 Nouget and 4000 mAh battery giving up to 17 days on standby.

As for pricing, Redmi 5 is priced starting at ¥799 (2+16GB) ~(NRS 12,500 )/ ¥899 (3+32GB) ~(NRS  15,000) ; Redmi 5 Plus ¥999 (3+32GB) ~(NRS 15,700)/ ¥1299 (4+64GB) ~(NRS  20,500) . This is a great step form Xiaomi and we hope these devices will be avilable in Nepal as soon as possible.
