After taking a look at the huge success of the Redmi 5A in India, Mi Nepal has finally launched the Redmi 5A here in Nepal as well. The primary focus of the Redmi 5A will be the budget segment of the market where the device will be competing with similar offerings from other manufacturers. But before diving into the price let’s see what Redmi 5A has to offer first.
On the front, the device features a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display. On top, one can find the earpiece and a 5MP f/2.0 front facing and the proximity sensor. On the bottom there are the usual touch capacitive buttons. Under the hood, the device comes packed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 Quad-core SOC, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via dedicated microSD card slot. Sadly, the 3GB RAM variant of the device is not made available in Nepal as of now.
On the rear the device features a 13MP f/2.2 camera with PDAF and LED flash at the top left and a loudspeaker grill at the bottom. The back of the device is made out of polycarbonate plastic material but gives metal like finish and does not feel cheap.
Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, Infrared, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a Micro-USB port. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and an IR-blaster.
The device runs on MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.1.2 Nougat and is powered by a 3000mAh battery at 5V/1A charging. The company claims that the battery provides a standby time of 8 days and a video playback of 7 hours.
Redmi 5A vs Redmi 4A:
Since Redmi 5A 2+16GB variant is available at Rs.13999 whereas Redmi 4A is available at Rs.14,499 it is obvious that you might be wondering which one is the best bang for your buck. Redmi 5A comes with the new design, a dedicated microSD card and Android Nougat OS right out of the box, which makes Redmi 5A better than Redmi 4A. But a few things to remember, Redmi 5A does not have a Gyroscope sensor whereas Redmi 4A does. Also, we don’t have any information about the image sensor used on Redmi 5A. Because Redmi 4A has great 13MP Purecell OV13850 rear shooter that can take some awesome images under 15K budget category. Battery capacity is also a little bit more on Redmi 4A with 3150mAh whereas Redmi 5A comes with 3000mAh. And lastly, Redmi 4A 16GB variant does only have around 9GB space available right out of the box, which can be a big bummer if you use two SIM cards.
