Nokia 5.3 – Overview
Design & Display:
Nokia is always known for its robust build and premium hands-on-feel. The built is similar this time but at the back, we get a plastic finish instead of glass like the previous iterations. While at the front we have a large 6.55-inch HD+ display with a dewdrop notch at the top. The display is protected by a Gorilla Glass 3 and has a max brightness of 450nits. Again talking about that back, here we get a quad-camera setup and a capacitive fingerprint scanner, and a Nokia branding at the center. Talking about the extras, we get notification led on the power key and also a dedicated Google Assistant button.
With the Nokia 5.3, we get a quad-camera setup at the back. This setup is equipped with a 13 MP f/1.8 main shooter, along with a 5 MP Ultra-wide and 2MP each macro sensor and depth sensor. This setup is capable of recording videos up to [email protected], [email protected] While for the pictures we get AI mode, Enhanced Night Mode, Portrait shots with a natural-looking bokeh effect. At the front, we get an 8MP selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture, with AI and portrait mode features.
Power & Performance:
While every other OEMs are going on with G series of Mediatek Chipsets, here Nokia has gone with an older Snapdragon offering. Nokia 5.3 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 665. The Snapdragon 665 is an Octa-core CPU with 4×2.0 GHz Kryo 260 Gold & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver with Adeno 610 GPU.
We know that Snapdragon 665 is not a flagship powerhouse, but it can easily handle your day-to-day tasks and lighter gaming with ease. It is a significant upgrade over the last Nokia 5 series device, which came with a MediaTek P18 chip. Snapdragon 665 with stock Android is definitely going to perform smoothly. As it also has 4GB of RAM. Though the storage is a bit slow with eMMC 5.1.
While all this is handled by a 400mAH battery inside. Though having a large battery, due to its plastic back Nokia 5.3 weighs just below 185 grams. This large battery with a not so power-hungry CPU and an HD+ display will easily result in great battery life.
The software has always been one of the strongest points of the Nokia devices. Here to its similar. With Nokia 5.3 we get a clean and sock build of Android 10 and with promise for 2 Years of Software updates. At this price point, devices are rarely getting major Android updates, but Nokia has always kicked things off when it comes to software. We don’t get any bloatware and Ads in the UI like the other competition devices. So if stock Android is what you prefer, then Nokia 5.3 might be a great choice for you.
