Oppo as a brand always has been known for targeting offline markets with their celebrity endorsement and mainly focused on the design and build. Oppo smartphones are not particularly known for providing bang-for-the buck devices. Today Oppo launched their latest smartphone of the ‘F’ series, Oppo F19 Pro. Looking at its price, it competes with Samsung’s Galaxy M51, which is one of the best phones in the segment. So. today let’s have a comparison between these two devices and see which one you should go with.

Design & Display 

Talking about the display both the device comes with a plastic build. As the M51 packs a 42% bigger battery than the Oppo, it is 9.5mm thick whereas Oppo is 7.88 mm in thickness. Samsung M51 has a finger-print sensor at the power button while the Oppo has embedded it into the display.

At the front Oppo F19 Pro comes with a 6.3inch S.AMOLED display while the M51 houses a much larger 6.7inch S.AMOLED display. Both the devices have a standard 60Hz panel. Talking about the protection  Samsung M51 has Gorilla Glass 3+ at the front with a plastic back and on the F19 Pro, no such protection is specified and it also has a gradient plastic back. 

Camera & Software 

Samsung devices have always been class-leading in their segment. There devices like M21 and M31 packs some of the best camera in the segment and things are also similar here. Both the devices have a Quad-camera setup at the back. Comparing the main shooter, we get a 64MP f/1.8 lens on the Samsung M51 while on the Oppo we have a 48MP f/1.7 primary camera. Samsung even seems to win the battle when it comes to other auxiliary cameras.

With Samsung, we get 12 MP, f/2.2, 123Ëš ultrawide lens, a 5 MP, f/2.4, macro, and 5 MP, f/2.4, depth sensor. While on the Oppo side, things are quite underwhelming with 8 MP, f/2.2, 119Ëš ultrawide shooter, 2 MP, f/2.4, macro, and 2 MP, f/2.4, depth sensor. For video recording, both the devices can go up to 4K @ 30 fps. While at the front we get a 32MP shooter on both but Samsung has a better and bigger f/2.0 aperture for better results even under low-light.

Also, Samsung M51 can record 4K videos at 30fps even from the front camera whereas Oppo F19 Pro maxes out at 1080P 30fps. 

Talking about the software Oppo F19 Pro runs on Color OS 11.1 on top of Android 11. While Samsung runs on Samsung’s own One UI 3.1 and is recently upgraded to Android 11. 

Performance and Battery 

On the performance side, Samsung M51 is a clear winner with its much powerful and efficient Snapdragon 730G SoC compared to Helio P95 in the Oppo F19 Pro. Snapdragon 730G is an 8nm Octa-core CPU with 2×2.2 GHz Kryo 470 Gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 470 Silver cores and for the GPU we have Adreno 618. While the F19 Pro uses the same chip as the last year’s F17 Pro. Mediatek’s Helio P95 is a 12nm Octa-core CPU with 2×2.2 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores and PowerVR GM9446. Both the devices are equipped with 8GB RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage.

On the battery department, Samsung M51 is clearly a 2-day device with its mammoth 7000mAh battery, efficient 8nm processor, and a Super AMOLED display. While for charging, M51 supports 25W fast charging and the charger is provided in the box. While Oppo F19 Pro has almost 42% smaller 4310 mAh battery and supports 30W fast-charging and here too, the charger is provided in the box. 

Pricing 

Oppo F19 Pro is priced at Rs. 44,990 in Nepal for it’s 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant. While you can get Samsung Galaxy M51 at Rs.39,999 for the 6GB+128GB variant and the higher 8GB+128GB variant is priced at Rs.43,999 which is still 1,000 cheaper than the Oppo F19 Pro.

Oppo F19 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy M51 – Conclusion 

As there’s not much of a difference in the pricing of both of the devices, if you are in search of a device with excellent battery life, better gaming performance and a good set of the camera’s then Samsung Galaxy M51 is the one you should pick. Oppo F19 Pro would have been a good pick if it was somewhere around 30-35K but that’s not the case here. It’s quite hard for us to recommend Oppo F19 Pro with these specs at the price of Rs.45,000.
