Qualcomm Announced its latest Mid-range Chipset Snapdragon 7 Gen 3

Just a few weeks ago Qualcomm introduced its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset whereas recently they announced a new mid-range chipset Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 a successor to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2. Therefore, this article will discuss the details of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Chipset Overview

The new mid-range Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 slots between its predecessor Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 2s. According to Qualcomm the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 gets a 50% increase in GPU performance, a 15% increase in CPU performance, and 20% better power saving than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset.

Performance

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 gen 3 is based on TSMC’s 4nm architecture technology paired with 8 core CPU in a (1+3+4) package. Where the prime core is clocked at 2.63Ghz, 3 performance cores at 2.4Ghz, and 4 efficiency cores at 1.8Ghz. Moreover, for AI tasks Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU inside the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 brings 60% better performance per Watt as per Qualcomm. Likewise, the Adreno GPU on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 also supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, and Vulkan 1.3 APIs.

Display

The chipset will be supporting up to WFHD+ resolution @ 168Hz refresh rate, and WQHD+ resolution at 120Hz refresh rate whereas we find a support of up to 4K @ 60Hz for external display. Similarly High Dynamic Range (HDR) such as HDR10, HFR10+, adaptive HDR10, and Ultra HDR is supported by the chipset. Moreover, color depth of up to 10-bit and Rec.2020 color gamut are supported by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

Camera

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset is equipped with a Qualcomm Spectra ISP that can handle up to a single 200MP main camera and record 4K HDR video at 60Hz. Whereas the Spectra ISP gets AI features like AI Remosaic, AI noise reduction, AI video retouch, and more.

Connectivity and Other Features

For connectivity, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is paired with a Snapdragon X63 5G modem-RF system that ensures up to 5 Gbps download speeds over mmWave and sub-6Ghz bands. Whereas the chipset comes with Qualcomm fast connect 6700 mobile connectivity system featuring Wifi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Talking about other features the chipset gets a Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec for Audio. Coming to security we can find Qualcomm’s 3D sonic sensor, Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic sensor Max while the chipset comes with Qualcomm Quick Charger 5 technology.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Supported Devices

The first device featuring Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is expected to be launched later this month by key OEM brands such as Honor and Vivo. But we don’t have any information on specific models of the devices.
